About the Department of Philosophy

Department of Philosophy was one of 10 independent departments with which the faculty of Arts of the University of Dhaka started its academic activities on July 01, 1921. In 1952-53 academic year philosophy department got its new name “Department of Philosophy and Psychology”. Department of Psychology separated from the Department of philosophy to become an independent department on August 1965. Dev Centre for Philosophical Studies

Dev Centre for Philosophical Studies a research centre set up by the university of dhaka on 15 December 1980 commemorating philosopher govinda chandra dev (1907-1971). He was a renowned professor in the Department of Philosophy of Dhaka University from 1953 to 1971). On 31 January 1991 the centre was given a corresponding Bangla name: ‘Govindadev Darshan Gabeshana Kendra’. The centre is managed by a seven-member committee headed by a director.
